Senior Coastal Engineer
Location: Waltham, Massachusetts

ESS blends engineering with science to develop innovative and practical solutions that benefit our clients and the environment. Our engineers work closely with ESS scientists to design projects adapted to site conditions, resilient to potential hazards and protective of natural resources.

The Mission

The Position

We are seeking a well-rounded professional engineer (PE) with expertise in the design of coastal infrastructure and natural resource restoration projects, and experience with modeling and other resiliency assessments to address waves, flooding and other dynamic coastal conditions. The successful candidate will also demonstrate leadership capabilities and the potential to advance into a management position that helps set operational and strategic directions of ESS.

Skills Needed to Achieve the Mission

To achieve the mission, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their abilities and experience with the following.

  • Coastal engineering, project design, and permitting based on 10+ years’ experience.
  • Development of adaptive features for coastal resilience and natural resource restoration projects.
  • Coastal wave and flood hazard analysis.
  • Collaboration with regulatory professionals to incorporate environmental protection constraints into a successful project design.
  • Conceptual design and engineering plan development with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Effective, concise communication with clients, regulators, the public, internal teams, and subconsultants.
  • Management of project budgets and schedules of various sizes and involving multiple disciplines.
  • Business Development for engineering consulting services based on 5+ years’ experience and a proven track record of securing new business and developing client relationships.
  • Leveraging a base of personal clients to secure short-term and long-term project bookings.
  • Preparing winning proposals for both private and public sector clients.
  • Mentoring and guiding younger engineering professionals.

Required Education and Professional Skills:

  • BS degree required; MS degree with concentration in coastal, marine, or ocean engineering/science a plus.
  • MA PE License required; PE in RI or other states a plus.
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) or Massachusetts Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) certification preferred.

Other Details:

  • The position will be based in our Waltham, MA office and will work collaboratively with our East Providence, RI based professionals.
  • Full Time salaried.
  • Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications (salary plus bonus potential)
