Environmental Scientist (Waltham, MA or East Providence, RI)

As an Environmental Scientist you will be responsible for conducting tasks to support ecological investigations, impact assessments, technical reports, and permitting. Through challenging assignments and mentoring you will have opportunities to build expertise in your technical discipline, while developing skills in project management and business development. This is a great opportunity for the mid-level environmental professional looking to move up in their consulting career.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Field investigations and resource monitoring (may include offshore boat work).
  • Technical research and data management.
  • Regulatory analysis and preparation of permit applications.
  • Technical reports, including methods, results, data analysis and related tables/figures.
  • Agency consultations and public hearings.
  • Management of staffing, equipment, schedules, and budgets for technical tasks.
  • Business development and proposals.
  • Professional development and networking through memberships, meetings, and training.

This position offers a combination of office and field work. You will have opportunities to apply your personal expertise and learn new skills on the job through a diverse range of interesting and challenging projects.


  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or other related field.
    Master's degree with concentration in marine science preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in environmental consulting or related role.
  • Advanced technical writing skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and work effectively both solo and on team assignments.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, and commitment to quality and professionalism.
  • Self-starter able to balance work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willing to travel and work in the field.
  • Expertise in GIS, statistics, modeling, and ability to learn new software and programs, a plus.

Hours: Full-time
