ESS Group, Inc. was retained by Prolerized New England (now Schnitzer Northeast) to provide complete civil/site design for the proposed Mega Shredder installation at the facility in Everett, Massachusetts.
The Project Site is a 33-acre parcel comprised of land presently under ownership of Schnitzer Northeast and Keyspan. The modernization includes the replacement of the existing site buildings with new, relocated buildings; the replacement of the existing metals shredder with a new, more modern unit; and the replacement and/or upgrade of existing utilities and stormwater management systems. In addition, the majority of the site will be paved with fiber reinforced concrete. The innovative stormwater management system used meets the specialized requirements for collecting stormwater runoff generated at a metal recycling facility.
In addition, ESS prepared a construction phasing plan to identify the physical limits of the various phases of construction. The construction phasing plan will outline the steps required to allow these phases of work to be completed independently of one another while continuing to allow PNE to operate efficiently.
Following completion of the site design and the construction phasing plan, ESS prepared construction documents necessary for bidding and construction of each phase of the project.
ESS provided bidding services to assist PNE in the bidding and contractor selection process. ESS is currently providing construction phase services that include shop drawing review, construction layout working drawings, response to RFIs, and site observations.
ESS continues to coordinate with the project team as necessary to maintain momentum on the project and to ensure that all disciplines of the project are accurately represented on the project plans as site operations are adjusted and specifics of the site design change. ESS has also been retained to provide design services for several site improvement projects at the site.
