LEED Silver Certification for USCG Buoy Tender Waterfront Project

November 18, 2016 – ESS Group, Inc. is pleased to announce that the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Buoy Tender Waterfront Recapitalization at NAVSTA Newport has received LEED Silver certification. ESS provided environmental consulting and engineering support for the project's design-build team, which was led by Haskell. The project received this certification for incorporating green design, energy efficiencies, and water efficient landscaping in and around the two berths between Piers 1 and 2 in Coddington Cove in Newport, Rhode Island.

ESS led the preparation of all environmental permit applications for the project, which consisted of shore-side improvements, such as a new Shore Operations building and stormwater management system, as well as waterfront installations for three USCG cutters. ESS also developed the Dredge Material Management Plan for the dredging of 5,000 cubic yards of material between the two piers in order to deepen the water, allowing for improved maneuverability when berthing USCG vessels.

"The USCG Buoy Tender Waterfront Project is an excellent example of how our expertise in regulatory strategy, combined with early involvement in the project planning and design process, yielded considerable time and costs savings for Haskell and the USCG," said Project Manager, Payson Whitney, PE. "Our sincerest congratulations to Haskell and the USCG for receiving this certification."
