ESS Welcomes New Project Personnel
ESS is pleased to welcome the following new project personnel to our team. This talented group of individuals strengthens the breadth of our experience in a number of areas including environmental health and safety, data analysis and representation, site investigation and remediation, and civil engineering.
Peter Kelly-Joseph, Project Scientist, Energy & Industrial Services
Peter Kelly-Joseph joins ESS in its Waltham, Massachusetts office as a Project Scientist in its Energy and Industrial Services group. Peter will work with service and market leaders across the Company to build upon ESS's robust multi-media permitting experience and strengthen its environmental, health, and safety services for clients.
Peter joins ESS from Tufts University, where he served as an Environmental Manager of environmental compliance operations across three campus facilities. He was also responsible for hazardous waste generation, industrial wastewater, and air emissions permitting. Peter volunteered as the President and CEO of the Campus Consortium for Environmental Excellence, which provides resources, networking, and other tools to improve environmental performance in higher education institutions across New England.
Prior to Tufts, Peter was an Environmental Protection Specialist for the USEPA, where he worked on projects related to The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Clean Water Act, and the Clean Air Act. Peter managed EPA New England’s update to the 2011 National Water Program Strategy: Response to Climate Change.
Peter holds a Master of Environmental Policy and Planning, as well as a certification in Water Systems and Science at Tufts University. He also holds a BA in Political Science with a minor in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation from the University of Massachusetts. Peter is a Registered Environmental Manager (REM), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), and a MassDEP UST Class A/B Operator. Additionally, he holds certifications for OSHA HAZWOPER Emergency Response, EPA RCRA, DOT Hazardous Materials, and FEMA/NIMS training.
Michael Mahoney, GIS Analyst, Ecological Services & Environmental Permitting
Michael Mahoney joins ESS in its East Providence, Rhode Island office as an Environmental Scientist and GIS Analyst with the Company’s Ecological Services and Environmental Permitting group. In this role, Michael will provide company-wide support related to data collection, analysis, and manipulation; map production; and technical and permitting support. Some of his specialties include ArcGIS, ArcGlobe, Python, and Remote Sensing (LiDAR) image processing.
Prior to ESS, Michael worked with CT Sea Grant, where he used GIS to develop elevation datasets for nearly 3,000 coastal stormwater outfalls. The data helped both local and regional decision-makers manage coastal resources. Michael also served in the US Navy as a Salvage Diver and 1st Class Petty Officer prior to graduate school, and he is a member of the Association of Diving Contractors International as an Air Diver.
Michael recently completed a graduate certificate in GIS and Remote Sensing from the University of Rhode Island. He also holds an MS in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Sustainable Development and Climate Change from Antioch University New England, as well as a BS from Southern Illinois University.
Craig Paradis joins ESS as a Project Scientist in the Environmental Geosciences and Engineering group. Based in Waltham, Massachusetts, Craig will support ESS clients with site investigations, remediation, and regulatory filings under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), RIDEM, and USEPA remediation regulation programs.
