October 1, 2014 – East Providence, Rhode Island – Congratulations to Principal Scientist Jim Riordan, AICP, LEED AP on his recent appointment to the Rhode Island State Planning Council. A group of 25 members who represent a wide range of interests, the Council is responsible for adopting goals and policies to help form the State Guide Plan. Council members include representatives of state agencies, local governments, citizens from various geographic areas of the state, and federal advisory members.

“It is a great honor to be selected to serve on the Rhode Island State Planning Council,” said Riordan. “I look forward to being able to use my experience to help guide the state’s planning, especially on water resource management initiatives that will assist in sustaining the future of Rhode Island waterways.”

An official Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Council implements the Transportation Improvement Program and maintains the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. In addition, the Council advises the Governor on strategic planning matters and ensures that major project and program proposals are consistent with the State Guide Plan.

Mr. Riordan has dedicated his 20-year career to environmental planning and management. He has extensive experience in the environmental and stormwater management business sector, specifically in supervising the development and implementation of water quality projects related to Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) permitting and compliance. Mr. Riordan is also the current Vice President of the American Planning Association Rhode Island Chapter.
