residential dockPublic Hearings Announced to Review Chapter 91 Draft General Permit

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has announced a series of public hearings on the Draft General License For Small-Scale Docks and Piers pursuant to M. G. L. Chapter 91. The draft permit allows eligible non-commercial projects to self-certify small-scale docks, piers, and similar structures accessory to a residential use in tidelands, great ponds, and navigable rivers and streams of the Commonwealth.

oceanMA CZM Releases Draft Update to State Ocean Management Plan

The Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management has published a draft update to the state Ocean Management Plan. The public comment period on the draft is open until November 25, 2014.

ESS and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center contributed to the plan by producing an Offshore Wind Transmission Study Report, a report commissioned by MA CZM that analyzes the transmission infrastructure necessary to interconnect future Massachusetts offshore wind projects to the regional electric grid.

outfallEPA Releases Draft MS4 General Permit for Massachusetts

The Environmental Protection Agency has released a draft general permit for Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) in Massachusetts. Once finalized, the permit will strengthen clean water protection efforts in over 200 municipalities in Massachusetts. In addition to requiring regulated small MS4s to develop and maintain a "Stormwater Management Program", the draft permit also alters the requirements for total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) into impaired waters. Public comments are being accepted on the draft permit until December 29, 2014.
