ESS SVP Chris Rein Appointed to RIMFC Bluefish & Weakfish Advisory Panel

fishing-boatApril 10, 2014 – East Providence, Rhode Island – As a member of the Rhode Island Marine Fisheries Council (RIMFC), ESS Senior Vice President Chris Rein was appointed as the Chairperson for the Advisory Panel on Bluefish and Weakfish.

RIMFC Advisory Panels are chaired by a RIMFC council member and are comprised of members of commercial and recreational fishing user groups, as well as a technical staff person from the RI Division of Fish and Wildlife and a scientific advisor.  The Advisory Panel on Bluefish and Weakfish will undertake a variety of topics during future meetings, which may include:

  • Review of current Bluefish and Weakfish stock status
  • Review of Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission proceedings regarding Bluefish and Weakfish
  • Review of current recreational fishery practices, including future management adjustment requirements
  • Proposed changes to commercial and/or recreational fishing regulations
  • Proposals for future commercial and/or recreational fishery programs or studies

RIMFC advises state agencies and the Director of the Department of Environmental Management on the planning, management, and regulation of marine fisheries. Learn more about RIMFC and their current initiatives.
